Unboxing: The HONOR Magic 2

The HONOR Magic 2 is the company’s first ever implementation of a truly notch-less full screen slider smartphone. Two years after the launch of its predecessor, the HONOR Magic 2 is now official after being teased at the IFA 2018 early this year.
Although the phone is not available in Malaysia just yet, we were lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the phone ahead of its launch (courtesy of Honor Malaysia for sending us a review unit). Our review unit is the Gradient Black (8GB RAM + 128GB ROM) variant. Details on the actual retail availability and price in our market remains a mystery. (hopefully, soon 🙂 )
Unboxing the contents of the HONOR Magic 2 box, to our surprise, HONOR included an aluminium alloy back cover which we will be using since the back of the phone is a fingerprint magnet. The Magic 2 ships with a USB Type C cable, a charging brick (40W Fast Charger), a USB Type-C to 3.5mm Audio Adapter cable, a SIM ejector tool, some user manual, and the Magic 2 itself. Yes, a USB Type-C to 3.5mm adapter which means RIP 3.5mm headphone jack…
Equipped with a 6.39-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display, the Magic 2 houses an in-display fingerprint scanner. Powering all that under the hood is the new Kirin 980 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Did we also mention that the 3500mAh battery supports 40W fast charge technology? The Magic 2 comes with a total of 6 cameras. On the back of the phone, there are three cameras which consists of a 16MP f/1.8 lens, a 24MP f/1.8 monochrome lens and a 16MP f/2.2 super wide-angle lens. Sliding down the front half of the phone via the butterfly multi-track sliding system reveals the three front-facing camera: a main 16MP sensor with a f/2.0 lens accompanied by two 2MP f/2.4 cameras for depth perception.
